The importance of education when attracting talent.

In such a competitive industry it’s so important to have good stylists working in salon. However, UK statistics indicate that 20% of hair salons have vacancies and reports from Habia suggest that a huge proportion of these vacancies are unfilled due to the poor quality of applicants coming forward. But why? Is it because hairdressing is no longer seen as exciting or interesting? Or perhaps because of the stigma that hairdressing gained in years gone by, as an industry our youngsters went into if they had no other skills. A taboo topic, but the realities of it are, it’s becoming harder for salons to attract good talent. “If only they knew” we hear many of you say! The truth of it is, hairdressing is an exceptionally exciting, opportunity rich industry (we don’t need to tell you), but the question is…how do we make hairdressing a more appealing career choice?

We believe the answer could lie in education.

Very few people ever enter into a new job and say they don’t want to learn or progress their careers, so if you don’t offer your staff an opportunity to keep learning and developing, the chances are in a few short years they will get bored and have moved on to the next opportunity. It’s human nature. We all want to be challenged and reap the successes and the status that having knowledge brings. Another important thing to realise is that without ongoing training or education in the ways of your salon business, it can mean that your staff are not equipped, or confident enough to work in the way you expect them to, thus not giving your clients the service they expect or deserve.

The Organic Colour Systems education programme is designed to give salon owners everything they need to get the best from Organic Colour Systems products and to help make their businesses healthy and competitive, whilst giving their staff ongoing learning opportunities so that they can unlock their full potential and become specialists in hairdressing with a natural and organic product line.  More than this, the education programme brings a level of consistency across the salon, meaning clients all get the same high levels of service you would expect them to receive.

We plan to expand our education programme and offer new creative workshops where stylists can learn the freshest techniques to create the latest trends and really discover the endless possibilities natural and organic hairdressing can bring. “This will be very exciting for our salon customers. With our annual Inspired Collection, we are already showing salons how the techniques used by our Ambassador Karine Jackson to create editorial looks, can be used at salon level to create gorgeous hair. The introduction of our creative workshops will allow salons to take their creativity to the next level and physically try these techniques for themselves and hopefully take them back to the salon,” says Cloe.

Just a few snapshots from our recent workshops.

In an age where natural and organic beauty is at its peak, salons who are able to offer prospective stylists a healthier, more natural way of working, with an interesting and unique products line and an ongoing learning opportunity, are certainly ticking all the right boxes to attract good calibre stylists.
