Jon and Nichola came to visit us at HQ recently so we managed to steal Jon away to showcase a mens everyday cut with his own personal twist! “No two haircuts are the same because no two heads of hair are the same. I create shapes to suit people, not the other way around. ” – Jon
Step by steps.
- Consultation is key. With our model Bruno, his hair is extremely thick and he really just wanted some of the weight taken out. Jon therefore opted for a more streamlines cut with an edgy undercut to complement the look.
- Section your hair.
- Start with your undercut. Jon says “undercuts are great for removing weight and adding texture”. We used a grade 1 on Bruno and a top tip is to use smaller clips in areas where more detailing is required.
- Once your undercut is complete, start cutting section by section. First determine a guide. On Bruno we wanted to expose more of the undercut at the back but keep the weight in the front to stop the fringe from going flyaway.
- Use your guideline to cut section by section.
- Add layers as you please. Curly hair is very visual so you add layers and take weight out however you see fit with regards to where the hair is sitting. It is good to start with a guideline structure but then you can add the personality in afterwards with layers.
- TOP TIP: Keep Curl Memory Spray keeps the curls fresh throughout the cut whilst also making for the perfect cutting lotion.
- Keep you sections clean and use your guidelines throughout the sections. With Bruno we had quite a strong disconnect as we wanted the hair longer at the front.
- A great cutting technique on curls is twisting the curl round with your fingers and cutting the hair at the ends. It keeps the curls bouncy without making them flyaway. Razoring can cause frizziness which you don’t want with curly hair.
- Taking offset profile sections towards the front will mean that you have texture whilst also being structured. Especially in cases where you need the hair slightly longer at the front.
- Take your sections out and check that you are happy with how the hair is sitting. Continue to cut as desired but sometimes less is more especially with a more natural look.
- Style as desired.
